The Old School Yoga Studio has the great honour of hosting the one and only Manju Jois, the eldest son of Pattabi Jois – the founder of the Ashtanga yoga method as we know it today. Manju was born on 16th November 1944. He was taught by his father in a playful manner from the age of 7 and started to help him in the Shala aged 15.

Manju is dedicated to his mission of teaching the ancient tradition of Ashtanga vinyasa yoga, for a total mind-body-spirit unification with self and has taught the true Mysore Ashtanga method for over 50 years.

He moved to the West in 1975 and has been spreading the method around the world since then. It is largely due to Manju that yoga has become so widespread. With his great knowledge, wisdom and joyful sense of humour he manages to reach into the hearts of his students. It is such a pleasure to be around him and to be taught the way he was taught originally.

Manju is devoted to his wife Nancy and their young daughter Sathu – named after her paternal Grandmother – who was born in 2002. Sathu is a multi-talented, beautiful girl, who continues to bless the Jois family beyond measure.

We are so grateful for Manju’s visit. Words can’t express the excitement – especially as we are his only UK stop-off this summer.
